Fasting Helps Us Follow God
(Based on Matthew 4:1-11)

Jesus in the Wilderness

One day, before Jesus started His ministry, the Holy Spirit led Him into the quiet wilderness — a place with sand, rocks, hills, and long days of sunshine.

Jesus went there to fast for forty days.
No bread. No fish. No sweet honey.
Just quiet times with His Father.

During those days, Jesus prayed, listened, and grew strong inside His heart.
His body felt hungry, but His spirit felt full.

But someone else came to the wilderness…
the devil, who wanted to trick Jesus.

He whispered,
“If You’re really God’s Son, turn these stones into bread.”

Jesus was hungry — very hungry — but He answered with Scripture:
“People don’t live only on bread.
We live by every word God speaks.”

Then the devil took Jesus to the top of the temple and said,
“Jump down! God will send angels to catch You.”

But Jesus knew something important. We don’t test God or try to prove Him.

Jesus answered again with Scripture:
“Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”

The devil tried again, showing Him a high mountain and all the kingdoms of the world.

But Jesus stood firm and said what’s in The Scripture
“Worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.”

Jesus didn’t give in.
He didn’t choose the easy way.
He chose God’s way.

After the devil left, angels came and cared for Jesus.

Fasting didn’t make Jesus weaker — it made Him stronger inside, ready for everything God had planned.

“Jesus, thank You for showing us how to pray and fast.
We want to learn from you.
Help us listen to God, choose what is right,
and stay strong inside.
Make our hearts brave and full of Your love.
Amen.”
